Thermal Conductivity of PIR boards

PIR boards, typically have thermal conductivities ranging from 0.022 W/m·K to 0.026 W/m·K, depending on factors such as facings and manufacturing processes.

ThermaCote’s R-Value at 1mm

ThermaCote achieves an R-value of 1.87 m²·K/W at a 1mm thickness.

Calculating Required Thickness to Match ThermaCote’s R-Value:

To determine the necessary thickness of PIR boards to match a range of representative values, we use the formula:

Thickness = R x λ

Applying this:

For λ = 0.022 W/m·K:

  • Thickness = 1.87m².K/W x 0.022W/m⋅K
  • = 0.04114m or 41.14mm

For λ = 0.024 W/m·K:

  • Thickness = 1.87m².K/W x 0.024W/m⋅K
  • = 0.04488m or 44.88mm

For λ = 0.026 W/m·K:

  • Thickness = 1.87m².K/W x 0.026W/m⋅K
  • = 0.04862m or 48.62mm

Comparison

As you can see, in comparison, ThermaCote offers excellent performance.

  • ThermaCote’s R-value 1.87 m²·K/W at 1mm
  • PIR board's R-value varies depending on manufacturer but in the range of 41.14mm to 48.62mm
